Survivors from the Guilford County Family Justice Center will share personal experiences and highlight ways to improve workplace policies and procedures to enhance safety and create a more supportive work environment.

Resources about the FJC and workplace domestic violence will also be shared.

Preventative Cancer Screenings while Living with Paralysis

The National Paralysis Resource Center is hosting a webinar on preventative cancer screenings for women living with paralysis.

This webinar will include a panel discussion featuring two women living with paralysis who are cancer survivors and an oncologist. The panelists will explore the importance of preventative cancer screenings, the physical and attitudinal barriers to accessing them, strategies for overcoming these barriers, ways to find a provider who offers accessible screenings, and questions to ask when making an appointment. Audience members will gain an understanding of the shared challenges women with paralysis face when accessing preventative cancer screenings and be empowered to obtain the screenings they need to remain healthy. 
 
Live captioning and an ASL interpreter will be available.

Supporting Brain Health and Reducing Dementia Risk

Webinar Description:
Helping people understand how to take care of their brains is an impactful way to reduce the risk of developing dementia. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and managing long-term health conditions play a key role in promoting brain health and reducing dementia risk. 

During “Unique Approaches to Support Brain Health and Reduce Risk through Education, Exercise, Diet, and Art,” ACL will provide an overview of the benefits of reducing risk and supporting brain health and will review resources that can be used to educate the public about brain health as we age. 

Participants will also learn about the We Program based at GrownUps in Puerto Rico, which was created specifically for people at risk of developing dementia. The program combines education, exercise, cooking workshops, arts, and horticulture into a fun and social opportunity for people to learn risk reduction techniques and take control of their brain health. You will learn more about how this program has successfully recruited participants, the impact it has had, and creative strategies for sustaining the program.

Webinar Description:  
It is estimated that at least one in four older adults is living with a mental health condition. The impact of these conditions will range in severity, depending on the person and the diagnosis. Still, it will often affect most aspects of a person’s life, including physical health, relationships, and their ability to care for themselves. APS frequently becomes involved with cases involving mental health, and workers often describe these situations as particularly challenging. In this webinar, participants will gain a better understanding of the most common mental health disorders for older adults and how the symptoms may impact their cases. This webinar will provide strategies for APS professionals on how they can adapt their communication and case planning to better accommodate people who are experiencing symptoms of mental health conditions.
