Webinar: New Federal Policies to Prevent Reverse Mortgage Foreclosures
Online
Wed, 05/08/2024
National Center on Law and Elder Rights (NCLER)

Wednesday, May 8, 2024 | 2:00 - 3:15 p.m.

The National Center on Law and Elder Rights (NCLER) invites you to attend this webinar where they will discuss new federal policies related to reverse mortgage loan foreclosures.

Reverse mortgage loans are meant to prevent displacement of low-income older adults and preserve housing stability, however these loans can end up in foreclosure for a number of reasons. Reverse mortgage borrowers can end up in foreclosure if they default on property taxes or insurance or if the lender believes they have permanently moved out of the home. Non-borrowing spouses and other heirs may also end up facing the risk of foreclosure, but foreclosure avoidance options are available. This webinar will cover reverse mortgage basics, recent policy changes, and important updates to help reverse mortgage borrowers, spouses, and heirs avoid foreclosure.

Speakers:

  • Sarah Mancini, National Consumer Law Center
  • Maryann Flanigan Sutherland, Legal Services of New Jersey

Still, it will often affect most aspects of a person’s life, including physical health, relationships, and their ability to care for themselves. APS frequently becomes involved with cases involving mental health, and workers often describe these situations as particularly challenging. In this webinar, participants will gain a better understanding of the most common mental health disorders for older adults and how the symptoms may impact their cases. This webinar will provide strategies for APS professionals on how they can adapt their communication and case planning to better accommodate people who are experiencing symptoms of mental health conditions.

Lead Across Boundaries
In Person
Fri, 06/28/2024
UNC School of Government

Friday, June 28, 2024 | 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Many, if not most, of the complex issues in the public sector are not neatly contained within the purview of one organization. No one person or sector has all the ability, resources, or power to solve complex public problems. To address these problems and opportunities, community leaders must facilitate work across the boundaries of organization, sector, or jurisdiction

Skillfully leading across these boundaries requires the ability to lead beyond the scope of one’s authority and navigating the give-and-take terrain of collaboration. This workshop explores the core competencies of this boundary-crossing leadership, including the mindset necessary to successfully work through inevitable conflict in order to accomplish collective goals. Participants will have the opportunity to connect skills and concepts to a boundary-crossing issue they are dealing with in their communities.
